They are equipped with toilet paper, a sink with warm water and soap to wash your hands. A heated dryer is available to dry your hands. Water: • With COVID-19, you must bring your own water bottles. Please make sure you bring an adequate amount of water as we will not be suppling any. We absolutely do not recommend sharing water with other Community Service Workers. Stay hydrated when you are duty. Possessions: • Leave your wallets and purses in your car, out of sight from public view. You can also put your purse in your trunk. You are responsible for the items checked out to you at the garage office. Those items will be in a plastic tin. • We will supply protective gloves if you request gloves. What we mean by protective gloves are: latex gloves. • Do not pick up strange articles or items. Do not pick up anything that looks sharp, (i.e., used needles, razor blades) drugs, etc. Notify staff as soon as possible. • Do not pick up something that is too heavy for you. • Do not pick up hazardous items / spills, I.e., gasoline. • Do not take any risks attempting to retrieve litter in unreasonable places (up a tree, down a steep incline, in rapidly flowing water, on slippery surfaces, etc.). • Stay clear of traffic. Do not attempt to collect litter from the middle of heavily trafficked streets. Use common sense when it comes to traffic safety. • Interfering with traffic will not be tolerated. • Avoid rocky, steep, or unstable surfaces. • Avoid stinging/biting insects (ie. wasp nests). • Do not pick up glass with bare hands or gloves. Use a trash grabber or broom & dustpan. • Do not pet/catch/retain loose cats, dogs, racoons, squirrels, or other animals. • Listening to music on a personal device (i.e., iPod, etc.) is allowed BUT only use one ear bud so this won’t interfere with hearing, warnings, and general safety. • Horseplay or pranks endangering the safety of yourself, fellow workers or the public will not be tolerated and is cause for immediate removal from the program. • Do not compact trash bags -- injuries from sharp or broken objects may result from the bag bursting. • Never pick up exceptionally heavy or unyielding objects, dead animals, or suspected toxic or hazardous materials. Mark the location and notify the district staff. • Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited while participating in this program.
